Hey there, future tradespeople! So, you’ve taken the leap and started your apprenticeship. Congratulations! Get ready for an adventure filled with hard work, learning, and plenty of laughs along the way. We’re here to help you navigate this exciting new chapter with some of our best advice. Let’s dive in!

  1. Be a Knowledge Sponge:

Your apprenticeship is like a treasure trove of wisdom, so soak it all in! It is okay to be curious and ask lots of questions – but remember to only ask once – asking the same question over and over is going to drive your mentor crazy and show that you are not retaining what they are teaching.

  1. Stand Out:

Skilled trades require a work ethic tougher than most careers out there. Show up on time and be more reliable than a backup generator during a blackout. Take your job seriously, be focused, and go the extra mile. Your dedication will make you stand out and increase your chances of getting a raise or a promotion.

  1. Watch the Masters:

The trades are full of legends who’ve been at it for years. Show respect. Be humble. Listen to their stories, and absorb their wisdom. They’ve seen it all and can guide you through the ups and downs of your apprenticeship journey.

  1. Safety First, Always:

Know the safety rules and keep them top of mind while on the job site. Wear your gear, make sure it fits well and be sure you watch yourself on a ladder (we have a free Ladder Safety Training to help you!) Safety is no joke, folks!

  1. Be a Proactive:

Don’t be a wallflower waiting for instructions. Step up and show your initiative! Take charge, be eager to help, and anticipate what needs to be done. Who knows? You might even score some extra responsibilities along the way.

6. Keep Evolving:

The trades are like a wild ride, always changing and evolving. Stay ahead of the curve by staying in the know. Learn about new techniques, embrace new technologies, and adapt to the constant changes. Get additional training and certifications to boost your skills.

7. Embrace the Adventure:

Apprenticeships come with challenges – we won’t lie to you about that. But approach those challenges with a positive mindset which is what will get you through the day and on to the next one. Mistakes happen, setbacks come and go, but it’s all part of your journey to becoming the next generation of trades masters.

Remember, your apprenticeship is your ticket to a successful trade career. Follow these tips, laugh at the mishaps, and keep pushing forward. You’re on your way to a rewarding career!
